Production of Stainless Steel Screws
What is the difference between a steel screw and a stainless steel screw?
The choice of material for the production of screws is crucial to ensure the strength and durability of the fastener. When talking about steel screws and stainless steel screws, the main differences lie in the chemical composition and mechanical and corrosion resistance properties. Stainless steel contains a significant percentage of chromium, which forms a passivating layer of chromium oxide on the surface of the metal, protecting it from corrosion.
Ferritic stainless steels contain a ferritic crystalline structure and are known for their good corrosion resistance and ease of machining. They are magnetic and offer moderate resistance, suitable for general uses where high mechanical properties are not required.
Martensitic stainless steels , on the contrary, are characterized by a martensitic crystalline structure which gives them high hardness and mechanical resistance. They are also magnetic and are used in applications where high mechanical performance and wear resistance are required.
Austenitic-ferritic stainless steels , also known as duplex steels, combine the properties of ferritic and austenitic steels, offering excellent corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength. They are less magnetic and are ideal for marine and chemical applications.
Austenitic stainless steels are the most popular due to their excellent corrosion resistance and ductility. They are non-magnetic and offer good workability, making them ideal for a wide range of applications, including the food and medical sectors.

Stainless steel screws:
head types
- Flat head stainless steel screws : Ideal for applications where the screw must be flush with the surface of the material. They offer a clean finish and are often used in furniture and electronic devices.
- Pan head stainless steel screws : They provide a larger bearing surface and are suitable for fixings where aesthetics and good load distribution are important.
- Countersunk Stainless Steel Screws : Allows installation flush or slightly below the surface of the material, ideal for applications where smooth, uniform assembly is required.
Stainless steel screws:
types of threads
The stainless steel screws we produce are not only distinguished by the various types of heads, but also by the variety of threads available. Each type of thread is designed to optimize fastening in specific applications, offering precise and safe solutions.
- ISO metric threads :
- Triangular profile : The most common, used in a wide range of applications due to their versatility.
- Coarse Pitch : Provide superior mechanical strength and quick installation.
- Fine pitch : Offers greater control in tightening and are ideal for high precision applications.
- Multi-start : They allow faster advancement and better fixing.
- Double helix : They guarantee greater stability and load distribution.
- With left-hand thread : Used in applications where vibrations can cause screws to loosen.
- Self-tapping screws : They do not require a pre-tapped hole and self-tap into the material.
- Trilobe screws : Specific for plastic materials, they form their own thread in the material.
- Whitworth threads : British standard used mainly in older machinery and construction.
- UNC and UNF Series ASA Threads : Used primarily in the United States and North America , they offer high strength and precision.
- Sawtooth threads : Offer greater resistance to axial loads and are used in heavy industrial applications.
- Special custom threads : Made to specific customer requests for particular and unique applications.
These different thread configurations allow Vilux Viterie to offer customized solutions to satisfy every specific need, always guaranteeing high quality and optimal performance.
